1) We are situated at the foot of a steep 300m hill which you have to walk down to reach us (and then walk back up to leave). It takes about five to ten minutes each way. Unfortunately, Earth Lodge is not wheelchair accessible or conducive to those with injuries that inhibit walking.

Here are a few things you should bring with you to make life easier.
  • Backpack
You're going to be carrying your bags so bring something that is easy to manage. Large rolling suitcases are not designed to be carried up hills.
  • Walking Shoes
Nothing extreme, just something with a grip. The path can get slippery - especially during rainy season - so leave the flip flops and heels in your pack. Warm clothes are also recommended as it can get colder at night.
  • Flashlight
We recommend arriving during the day but if this is not possible a flashlight is essential. Finding your way down the path after dark can be difficult. A flashlight is handy for getting around the lodge at night too.

2) Our restaurant is very well known for its delicious, home made meals. Breakfast and lunch are served from 8am-3pm (they range from 20-50Q depending on what is ordered) and dinner is served between 7-7:30 pm each night (65Q per person). We have a full bar with happy hour each night plus plenty of non alcoholic options.
We do not offer kitchen facilities to guests nor do we lend out dishes or other supplies. We ask that guests who do bring their own snacks or drinks, consume them in their rooms or away from the restaurant area. Please note that Earth Lodge is not a budget hostel. Expect to spend around Q200 ($27 US) per person per day for the cheapest accommodation and 3 meals without drinks.

3) We are located in a small village called Aldea El Hato about 20 minutes by car outside of Antigua (7km). We have a driver that brings guests up and down for a cost. We ask that guests do not walk from Antigua as there have been several robberies reported along the road about 1km outside Antigua. If guests have their own car, they are welcome to drive, we can provide driving directions and information about parking. Guests must arrive before 9pm to check in and we ask that those guests driving for the first time arrive before it is dark. The road through the village is narrow and can be precarious for first time drivers.

4) We are a small hotel. We only can sleep about 38 people if every bed is full, so please make sure to book at least a week in advance especially if wanting to stay during the weekend. Our rooms are comfortable and rustic, bedding is provided and a most private rooms have private bathrooms. All rooms have access to hot showers.

5) Come on up just for the day. If you don't have time to stay at Earth Lodge, you are more than welcome to visit during the day. We can organize transportation to and from Antigua, and day trippers can enjoy a meal, hike around or just relax in a hammock. There is nothing quite like Earth Lodge so close to Antigua, and it is worth the trip even for a few hours. We oftentimes have live music and BBQ's on Sundays so check our website for upcoming events.
