Thanks to those that sponsored for the 2010 School year.

A great big thank you to those that sponsored children this year. We were a bit short of sponsors unfortunately, so we weren't able to take the kids on the field trip as planned. Instead, we used the money to sponsor 2 kids for $45 instead of just one. This way, we were able to buy school supplies for all the kids in the school.
We continually need help with funds for the breakfast program and also to help with building of new classrooms. The school is getting extremely overcrowded and this year we hope to raise money to build 2 new classrooms. This should cost about $4000 US altogether so it is a big project!!
Please contact Briana at elhatoschool@yahoo.com to help out!

Volunteer at the El Hato School!

Stay at Earth Lodge and volunteer at the El Hato School! Through Las Manos de Christine, the El Hato School will be the recipients of a new English program headed by Emma Gallagher, a former volunteer from the Camino Seguro branch of Las Manos de Christine. Of course, it is well understood that education is the best way by which to help impoverished communities overcome the obstacles they face, and in Guatemala, as in most countries around the world, English has become an invaluable commodity.  The program will not only expose El Hato’s children to English on a daily basis, but it will also allow the children to interact with new friends from abroad.  This is where we need you’re help and how you can get that warm, fuzzy feeling from lending a hand.
Casual volunteers get to spend a Friday afternoon giving children one-on-one English language practice, meeting with a great group of kids, and having fun with classroom activities.  Very short-term volunteers (up to a week) can get the pleasure of combining their travels with the experience of championing a great cause with an energetic and inspired group of do-gooders.  And, volunteers dedicating two or more weeks with the program will get all of these perks, as well as special rates at Earth Lodge.
To learn more about volunteering at the El Hato School, contact Jonathon at lasmanosvolunteer@gmail.com.
